Hand weaving for the woven rugs: The hand woven rugs are also termed flat weave rugs because of their flat design. These rugs are woven like a basket by interlocking the warp & weft threads. This rug doesn’t use the slit weave technique rather uses a supplementary weft thread for extra support, which eventually makes it much stronger & thicker. The soumak rugs has a smooth face & a rough back as opposed to kilim that has both front & back smooth.
Plain weave:
It is the simplest of all weaving techniques. A plain weave rug is made by crisscrossing warp & weft threads. These rugs are plain & strong. These rugs basically have simpler geometrical designs & sustain wear & tear.
